Our Process
From Consultation to Completion
CONSULTATION
Marine Exhaust Systems Built To Perform
At Halyard, we offer a complete end-to-end service for the design and manufacture of marine exhaust systems, silencing solutions, and specialist components. Our structured process ensures that every project is engineered to meet the operational needs of your vessel, satisfying the agreed design parameters and complying with any Marine Classification Society regulations.
Whether you’re specifying a new build or refitting a commercial vessel or yacht, we collaborate closely with your team from initial enquiry to final installation.
Our process begins with a comprehensive consultation phase. During this stage, we work closely with vessel owners, captains, naval architects, shipyards, and design teams to fully understand your requirements. We listen, advise, and define clear project objectives before any design work begins.
This collaborative stage is essential to ensure all technical, spatial, and regulatory factors are accounted for.
The consultation process includes:
- Halyard scope of supply definition
- Identification of detailed system technical specification
- Classification Society requirements (e.g. Lloyd’s Register)
- Space planning and vessel layout considerations
- Design, delivery, and launch schedules
- Exhaust outlet positions and pipe routing
- Refit or build site requirements
- Contact points within your team
- On-site inspections where needed
From this, we develop a design brief, timescale, and clear project plan.
DESIGN
Engineered for Every Application
Following consultation, our engineers begin the design phase — building the detailed system layout, layout drawings, and system documentation.
We use this phase to align all parties on specification, layout, and performance goals, ensuring a smooth transition to manufacture.
This stage includes both technical detail and customer collaboration, maintaining full transparency throughout.
- System General Arrangement (GA) 3D modelling
- Back pressure and safety calculations
- Acoustic attenuation and silencer selection
- Exhaust pipe routing
- Water injection positioning
- Spray ring design
- Bypass integration where applicable
- Selection of silencers, separators, and connections
- Support and mount configurations
- Thermal insulation requirements
- Creation of manufacturing drawings
- Customer sign-off and approval
