Design

Once the consultation stage is complete, our team at Halyard begins constructing the detailed system layout and designing all associated components. We maintain close communication with the customer throughout this phase and remain available to address any engine, vessel layout, or system considerations.

Agreement on the initial system layout is a significant milestone that represents a commitment from all parties and enables us to develop a specification that can be used to finalise, approve, and manufacture the system design.

During the design stage, we focus on several key factors, including the system general arrangement 3D model, back pressures, and safety considerations. We also consider other factors, such as silencer attenuation and how it aligns with the overall objective, exhaust pipe runs, water injection spray ring design and positioning, water separation on generator systems, and the incorporation of bypasses when below-water outlets are involved.

Manufacturing

Lastly, we specialise in the manufacturing of dry exhaust sections, silencers, and water injection spray rings using highly specialised corrosion-resistant alloys and stainless steels. Our GRP silencers and separators are constructed using filament-wound composite tubes, and our bespoke exhaust hoses and bellows are made of either nitrile rubber or silicone to meet the requirements of Lloyd’s approved construction methodologies.

All our components are designed in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 process and are developed to meet Classification Society compliance standards. Our team has a wealth of experience in producing bespoke frameworks and piping systems with complex geometries using high-grade stainless-steel alloys.

Our full-service sheet metal, fabrication, and TIG welding shops have highly skilled and experienced employees who can manufacture the majority of components in-house. When required, we work with reliable partners to ensure we meet our customers’ needs.

We have more than 30 years of experience manufacturing silicone and rubber hoses, bellows, and connectors and can deliver fast turnaround times for made-to-order components. We are highly skilled in working with strict specifications and hold Lloyds Register-type approval for marine exhaust hose and silicone products. Additionally, we follow BS5122 (1986) for railway low and medium-pressure saturated steam and meet our customers’ strict requirements.

We have a range of mandrels available, from 6mm to 610mm I.D., and we use an oven and two autoclaves to ensure that we have the capacity to manufacture and cure products to your requirements on very short lead times. Our team at Halyard has also been manufacturing composite components since 1992 and is highly skilled in producing high-quality products for our customers.
