At Halyard, Our Expertise Spans Across Three Core Competencies:
We pride ourselves on a holistic approach, guiding you from the initial conversation through to the bespoke creation of your ideal noise insulation solution. Our three competencies encompass all aspects of exhaust system creation, including the implementation of effective noise insulation.
Consultation
Our approach to crafting the perfect exhaust systems and their accessories begins with a thorough understanding of our customers’ unique needs and detailed specifications. The journey starts from the very first enquiry. Our team engages in personal consultations, ensuring that we’re in tune with the requirements of the owner, shipyard, yacht manager, and designers, as well as the operational necessities of engines and generators.
We place immense value on aligning with the priorities of all stakeholders, considering anticipated engine running hours, and adhering to the stringent demands of Classification Societies. This holistic consultation process allows us to grasp the full scope of supply, identify the detailed system technical specification, and comprehend the classification society requirements, all within the designated system space parameters.
Crafting a tailored project plan and design brief for the required system, including exhaust systems, accessories, and other integral systems, becomes a collaborative endeavour. Our service extends to detailing design, delivery, installation, and launch schedules, ensuring outlet positions and pipe runs are optimally planned, and even accommodating vessel build or refit locations.
By maintaining open lines of communication with customer team contacts and conducting vessel and system inspection visits as necessary, we guarantee that every aspect of the consultation process is meticulously covered, leading to service excellence and system precision.
Design
Following the initial consultation, our team progresses to crafting the detailed layout and design of your bespoke exhaust system, encompassing all associated components. This stage is characterised by a dynamic collaboration between our experts and you, our valued client. As the design phase unfolds, queries may arise—ranging from engine specifics to the broader context of your vessel’s layout and systems.
It’s a critical juncture where consensus on the preliminary system layout becomes the cornerstone of our joint endeavour, setting a definitive course for the development of a precise specification. This specification underpins the subsequent finalisation, approval, and manufacturing of the system.
The design phase is comprehensive, incorporating a 3D model of the system’s general arrangement, careful consideration of back pressures and safety protocols, and the nuanced integration of silencer attenuation to meet the overarching noise reduction goals.
We delve into exhaust pipe routing, the intricate design and placement of water injection spray rings, water separation in generator setups, and the strategic incorporation of bypasses for below-water outlets. The design also addresses silencers, separators, connections, supports, mounts, bellows, hoses, and thermal insulation, along with advanced SCR/DPF aftertreatment systems.
Achieving your approval remains paramount, as it heralds the transition to creating precise manufacturing drawings, ensuring that the final product aligns seamlessly with your expectations and requirements.
Manufacturing
Boat noise insulation is crucial for enhancing onboard comfort and meeting environmental standards. It involves advanced materials and technologies to absorb, dampen, and block unwanted engine and environmental noise.
At Halyard, our expertise shines in our tailored approach, utilising corrosion-resistant alloys and stainless steels for Exhaust Sections, silencers, and spray rings. Our GRP Silencers are made from composite tubes, and our bespoke hoses and bellows come in nitrile rubber or silicone, crafted to meet specific needs and Lloyd’s approved methodologies.
Committed to quality, we adhere to ISO 9001:2015 standards and ensure Classification Society compliance. Our metal fabrication skills enable us to produce complex, high-grade stainless-steel frameworks and components in-house, supported by expert TIG welding.
In rubber and silicone manufacturing, we excel in producing custom hoses, bellows, and connectors, with over 30 years of experience and Lloyds Register approvals. Our composite manufacturing capabilities, from filament winding to hand lamination, allow us to offer a wide range of high-quality, noise-reducing solutions for a serene maritime experience.
