Wavestream bilge filters receive RCD approval
Halyard Marine Ltd has announced that Wavestream bilge filters are to be accepted for use in boats built to the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD). Distributed by Halyard in the UK, and manufactured in Britain, the Wavestream is an environmentally friendly oil filter system that removes oil from bilge water, ensuring only clean water is discharged overboard.
Wavestream bilge filters have been identified as a cost effective and environmentally friendly way for leisure and commercial boat owners to prevent oily bilge water from being discharged overboard. In particular, the filters easily achieve the new 5 parts per millions (ppm) level which has just been agreed for the RCD by its governing body - the Regional Sectoral Group (RSG) committee.
In 2001, Wavestream achieved Lloyd’s Type Approval for its complete range of leisure and commercial marine products. In addition, in 2005, the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) agreed to include Wavestream bilge filters capable of a 5 ppm discharge level in the pollution prevention section of the new BSS. This new and prestigious recognition by the RSG is the next stage to being accepted as “Recommended For Use”, which could be in place by mid 2010.
James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard says: “We are delighted to hear that Wavestream has achieved RCD acceptance. Changes in environmental equipment requirements for both commercial and leisure boat owners mean that lots more people are using Wavestream filters, and this latest achievement is going to further reduce the volume of contaminated waters discharged into the sea.”
