Halyard Fabrications, the Bournemouth based division of Europe’s leading manufacturer of marine exhaust systems has announced increased improvements in productivity and efficiency following a series of positive changes made at the site over the past year.
In 2006, Halyard Fabrications moved into new purpose designed premises in Ferndown. The new facility at Ferndown Industrial Estate boasts an impressive 8,000 sq feet of space, providing 100 per cent more effective manufacturing space for the specialist stainless steel exhaust components used in Halyard’s exhaust systems. Products from this factory are combined with the award winning GRP silencers produced by Halyard at its Portsmouth manufacturing plant.
Halyard Fabrications has also seen a clear rise in efficiency as a direct result of the appointment of Richard Johnson as specialist Kaizen Manager. Richard joined Halyard with an extensive engineering background, and since starting with the company has been acting as Value Stream Manager for Halyard’s project manufacturing at the new site. Richard is responsible for implementing continuous improvement processes, including establishing the strategy, systems, procedures and organisational structures needed for Kaizen to be effective, whilst complementing Halyard’s progressive lean manufacturing programme.

In addition, Halyard has appointed another first class Welder Fabricator Steve Brown. Steve is working alongside Halyard’s Senior Patterning Engineer, Matt Foster, patterning and commissioning exhaust systems increasing the company’s capacity in the field.
Zeb Elliott, Sales Director at Halyard says, “We are delighted with the progress made at Halyard Fabrications within such a short space of time. The changes have allowed the business to develop its capacity to meet the needs of the increasing volume of boats our customers are building. Since the appointment of Richard Johnson we are seeing significant improvement within the company and the accelerated implementation of lean manufacturing techniques within Halyard.”
The company’s headquarters and design facility continues to be based at Whaddon near Salisbury.
