Halyard and Sunseeker International join forces to protect the environment

Halyard, Europe’s largest designer and manufacturer of specialist marine exhaust systems has announced that the Wavestream bilge water filter will be fitted as standard onto all Sunseeker International models from the Superhawk 43 to the Predator 108.
Sunseeker International is the world’s largest privately owned yacht owner and largest producer of motoryachts over 80 feet. The company has taken the exceptional move to fit Wavestream bilge filters as standard on to all of its yachts following a number of successful trials across the Sunseeker ranges.
Calvin Gray, Assistant Development Manager at Sunseeker said: “We tested the Wavestream thoroughly, and assessed the flow rates from each vessel. We are confident of the Wavestream’s ability to completely remove any trace of oil from the bilge water, and to more than cope with flow rates. It was agreed to fit these important environmental products on board – this helps every Sunseeker owner be more aware of preventing pollution, and all they need to do is to carry out a regular filter change to maintain this.”
Available from Halyard, and manufactured by Wave International, the Wavestream bilge filter has full Lloyd’s Register Approval, and is approved for use by the MCA, RINA, ISO and ABYC. The Wavestream removes oil from contaminated bilge water ensuring only clean water is discharged overboard. As bilge water inevitably contains traces of engine oil, as well as accidental oil spilled by the owner on board, fitting a Wavestream bilge filter ensures that even accidental spillages are protected.
Paul Gullett, Managing Director at Wave International comments, “It is becoming obvious worldwide, through the policing of the Marine Pollution Act (MARPOL) and the recent EU Water Framework Directive that craft discharging oil or fuel during bilge water pumping is no longer acceptable. Wavestream bilge filters have become the accepted solution for simple, effective control of bilge water discharge to keep within the specified legal limits.”
The Wavestream is easy to install, simply comprising a cylindrical cartridge filter that fits into the line between the bilge pump and the through hull outlet. The cartridge uses a patented technology that attracts the oil content of the bilge water to bond to the filter element.
Chris Champion, Joint Managing Director at Halyard says, “We are absolutely delighted at Sunseeker’s decision to fit the Wavestream to its models. The emphasis on protecting our environment is paramount within the marine industry, and the Wavestream provides a low cost, easy solution to ensure that boaters do not pollute the waters and the environment they enjoy and care about.”
The Wavestream has also been highlighted as a key product by the BMF and the RYA as part of the Green Blue, an initiative from the British Marine Federation and Royal Yachting Association, designed to promote environmentally conscious behaviour amongst the recreational marine industry. Other users include the RNLI, which has fitted all six of its RNLI E class lifeboats providing search and rescue cover at three of the RNLI stations based on the Thames with Halyard’s Wavestream bilge filter system. Other key organisations using the Wavestream include British Waterways, the police, the Navy and the MOD.
